Moscow, July 17, Interfax – The first Orthodox monastery will be built in Japan, the convent will be dedicated to St. Nicholas of Japan – the Russian cleric who set up the Orthodox Church in the ‘country of the rising sun’.
Hieromonk from St. Sergius Holy Trinity Laura Gerasim (Shevtsov) will be responsible for organizing monastic life, the Moscow Patriarchate repots at its official website.
A landlot for further monastery was acquired, the church will be built here, the first prayer service was conducted at the site.
Grand altar Gospels was delivered for future monastery, it was printed in the laura typography in Japanese in translation of St. Nicholas translation. It is opened in Japanese manner from the right side. It should be read from the right to the left, from the top to the bottom, which means the traditional vertical writing. The book weights about 10 kilos.
