Celebration of the Military Medical Academy’s Day, Serbia

The 169th anniversary of the Military Medical Academy was marked on 1 March 2013 with a solemn ceremony at the AF Guard Club. The jubilee’s celebration attended: His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch; Tomislav Nikolic, President of the Republic of Serbia; Aleksandar Vucic, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government and Minister of Defense; General Ljubisa Dikovic, chief of the Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces and many guests.

Speaking about the Military Medical Academy, its work results achieved between present and past anniversary and future plans of this important military medical facility, Head of the Military Medical Academy Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic pointed out the fact that this institution is the synonym of tradition and confidence, representing in the best way its country on both regional and world level.

-We are very proud of our tradition, however living and working in the present time and looking toward future. Although representing primary military hospital, we do not consider our patients as military or civilian, but dedicate to each and everyone the attention concerning the capacities we dispose of, said General Novakovic.

He also emphasized the significance of scientific-research work, aimed at the treatment improvement. The enrollment of fifth generation of cadets of the MMA Medical School, University of Defence, Belgrade, still in progress, will insure continuous completion of military doctors’ staff in the Serbian military medical system.

General Novakovic reminded the attendees on the last-year results, including surgical intensive care capacities extending and supply of multi-slice computerized tomography and seven state-of-the-art ultrasound machines. He announced, as well procurement of new equipment, introduction of the latest treatment methods, medical profession and staff improvement, more intensive international cooperation, anticorruption fight and conditions making for further amelioration of employees material situation.

-When we talk about medical profession, conditions can always be better, including the invested capital and professional training of our staff and application of new treatment methods. However, the thing which we cannot omit is a nice and warm word, smile for each patient and those are the things on which we should insist, concluded the MMA Head in his speech.

The ceremony offered opportunity to present all results achieved during the past period while the recognition for the best clinic was delivered, for the fifth time, to the MMA Clinic for Emergency Internal Medicine. Colonel Dr. Milic Markovic, representative head of the Clinic received the recognition awarded by the MMA Head.

For five years, the Military Medical Academy on the occasion of MMA Day awards medals “Dr. Vladan Djordjevic” for the best surgeons and this-year awarded are Colonel Prof. Dr. Jovan Jablanov, Specialist in Cardiosurgery, who spent most of his work at the MMA and Academician Prof. Dr. Zoran Krivokapic, professor of the Medical School, University of Belgrade and Head of the Department of Colorectal Surgery, First Surgical Clinic, Clinical Center of Serbia. Head of the MMA Surgical Clinics Group Colonel Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Jovic delivered the recognitions.

Prof. Dr. Aneta Lakic from the Neurology and Psychiatry Clinic for Children and Youth, Clinical Center of Serbia and associate professor of the Medical School, University of Belgrade received the award for the “Military Medical Review” author of the year 2012, whilst Lieutenant Colonel Prof. Dr. Slobodan Obradovic, MMA Clinic for Emergency Medicine and associate professor for the subject internal medicine, MMA Medical School, University of Defence, Belgrade was selected for the “Military Medical Review” reviewer of the year. Head of the Military Health Care Department Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Zoran Popovic delivered the awards to the author and reviewer of the year.

Military Medical Academy celebrates its anniversary of 2nd March to commemorate the day of 2nd March 1844, when Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic issued the Decree on the establishment of the first Central Military Hospital.
