Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich): How To Become Free?

Love gives freedom. It frees a person from the fetters of passions and vices. It is the passions that make us slaves.

God is love. And Divine love is present everywhere, in the entire Universe. Without end and without limit.

We need to respond to it and let it into our lives.

Love is a gift from God sent to people from above. A person cannot perceive it on his own. Love is of divine nature and we can only catch its outline, but not embrace it.

Love is given to a courageous heart that has challenged all that is temporary.

The merciful Lord, seeing even our small steps and timid intentions, strengthens us on the path to salvation, comforting us with His love.

It is God’s love, God’s spark that is the primary source of all manifestations of love on earth. This is love between spouses, and parental love, and friendship, and mercy.

There is no true love without a divine core. Everything else is an illusion and self-deception. Unfortunately, for the most part, people are content with surrogates, which drive them into even greater slavery, never having experienced the saving and liberating power of love in their entire life.

The sign of true love is a reflection of bliss. It never arouses fear, does not hurt, but uplifts and liberates.

All our life we must acquire love. And for our labors, the Lord, at the right time, will bless us with the gift of love.

Since you are here…

…we do have a small request. More and more people visit Orthodoxy and the World website. However, resources for editorial are scarce. In comparison to some mass media, we do not make paid subscription. It is our deepest belief that preaching Christ for money is wrong.

Having said that, Pravmir provides daily articles from an autonomous news service, weekly wall newspaper for churches, lectorium, photos, videos, hosting and servers. Editors and translators work together towards one goal: to make our four websites possible - Pravmir.ru, Neinvalid.ru, Matrony.ru and Pravmir.com. Therefore our request for help is understandable.

For example, 5 euros a month is it a lot or little? A cup of coffee? It is not that much for a family budget, but it is a significant amount for Pravmir.

If everyone reading Pravmir could donate 5 euros a month, they would contribute greatly to our ability to spread the word of Christ, Orthodoxy, life's purpose, family and society.
