The tree carver from Nevyansk, Michael Brylunov found the right tree thanks to local huntsman, who led him on the reserved forest trails of the Demidov mines, writes news portal ITAR-TASS.

Experts note that linden trees are on the list of long-livers. Its age can reach 1000 years. The exact age of the linden tree used for the sculpture is difficult to define, yet according to experts, its age is no less than 600 years.

The wooden sculpture of Nevsky with a width of almost 1.5 meters and a height of about 3 meters has been installed in the Monetnyj village. The master portrayed the Grand Duke resting after a victorious battle. He has lowered his sword, slightly leaning upon it.

“We have been looking for a Russian hero who could become an example for today’s youth. A person, whose feats have been praised for centuries” explained Alexander Sotnikov, a participant of the project. “We opted for Alexander Nevsky. In our opinion, the feats of the Grand Duke laid the foundation of the Russian people’s military glory”.
