Coffee with Sr. Vassa: St.Macrina and the Rewards of Solitude

Nun Vassa (Larin) | 22 July 2014
The all-new Ep.32 on Saint Macrina the Younger (c.330– 19 July 379) who was a saint and one of the most prominent nuns of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Among her nine siblings were Sts Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa and Peter of Sebaste. Her life reminds us of the rewards of solitude.

Most of us don’t live in secluded monasteries because it’s not where God put us. However, we are all called to times of stillness, to our own conversations with Him. As it says in the Psalms: “Be still, and know that I am God. “ But today we make it extra-hard for ourselves to find solitary, still moments because  of our attachment to our phones or computers, which keep us constantly “connected” and accessible to one another.
