Church relics stolen from historic monastery

Unknown burglars have stolen 8mln rubles worth of church items and relics from the patriarchal apartment at the historic monastery of St Trinity and St Sergius in Sergiyev Posad some 69 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

The loot includes an 18th -century Gospel in a silver cover and a casket with a rock from Calvary in it.

The apartment has no electronic alarm system, and it was not guarded at the time of the burglary.
