Three days after the tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon, Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology students and the OCF from Northeastern University came together for a small compline service at the memorial site a few blocks down from what is still an on-going crime scene. The following is a reflection on the evening by Holy Cross student Nicholas G. Savas:
There are so many things I would like to say, but moments such as this have made me realize that talking can only do so much. Although our community was unable to help at the hospitals or with the investigation, there was one thing that we were able to help with: prayer. It sounds so simple sometimes, but as we stood next to the notes, pictures, and items left at the memorial site chanting ‘Agni Parthene’, I turned around and saw tears running down the faces of strangers on the street. I knew at that moment, we had become the light in a very dark time.
I hope and pray that we can all, as Orthodox Christians, remember to share the beauty of our faith and always remember to be that light each and every day. Last night was a true witness to OUR faith.
