Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich): “The Lord Hasn’t Changed His Love”

I sometimes hear sorrowful words from people who have lost all hope: "the Lord has left us".

But is it possible?

Let us turn to the Gospel – the only true and pure source worthy of our trust. And from the very first sentences, we plunge into the most beautiful stream of God’s infinite love for man. Each word is permeated with Divine love and is a heartfelt message to each of us.

“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10).

God’s love is immeasurable, limitless, beyond time and boundaries. It cannot pass or diminish. It has no end or limit. Because the Lord is Love. And love comes only from God.

“… Love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:7–8).

The Venerable Nilus of Sinai said that love, in fact, has nothing in itself, except God.

Therefore, no matter how painful the soul feels, one must firmly believe that the Lord does not change His love and loves every person unconditionally. Everything in our life happens according to His good and merciful Providence for us. And if we humbly accept His holy will, then everything that happens will become saving for us.

Nothing can separate us from God, except our desire to do so. The love of the Lord extends to the entire universe and to all who live in it. It is Life.

“Who will separate us from the love of God: tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or a sword? .. Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, neither present nor future neither height nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:35-39).

Since you are here…

…we do have a small request. More and more people visit Orthodoxy and the World website. However, resources for editorial are scarce. In comparison to some mass media, we do not make paid subscription. It is our deepest belief that preaching Christ for money is wrong.

Having said that, Pravmir provides daily articles from an autonomous news service, weekly wall newspaper for churches, lectorium, photos, videos, hosting and servers. Editors and translators work together towards one goal: to make our four websites possible - Pravmir.ru, Neinvalid.ru, Matrony.ru and Pravmir.com. Therefore our request for help is understandable.

For example, 5 euros a month is it a lot or little? A cup of coffee? It is not that much for a family budget, but it is a significant amount for Pravmir.

If everyone reading Pravmir could donate 5 euros a month, they would contribute greatly to our ability to spread the word of Christ, Orthodoxy, life's purpose, family and society.
