A great spiritual event was held on Saturday, December 19, as 115 catechumens were baptized into Christ in His holy Orthodox Church in Kenya.

“God brings men into deep waters not to drown them, but to cleanse them. This is what we experienced today at the St. Nina Mission Centre and orphanage. We went to the river, 115 were baptized, both old and young,” reports Bishop Neofitos Kong’ai of Nyeri and Mount Kenya.

The newly-illumined were baptized in the river in Marimanti, 135 miles northeast of the capital city of Nairobi.

“We saw the hand of God actualizing His miracle in the waters,” writes Bp. Neofitos. “The Marimanti area has become Orthodox. We only need your support for them to realize the presence of Christ’s love. Let us not reduce Christ into a beggar. He is generous, kind and loving!”

“Today will remain in the annals of the history of our mission books as the day the waters stood still to allow Baptism to take place,” His Grace reflects.

The foundation stone for the construction of the St. Nina Mission was also laid during Bp. Neofitos’ visit.

Mass Baptisms are a regular occurrence throughout Africa. In February 2018, 35 children were baptized at the St. Irene Orthodox Mission and Orphanage in South Kinangop, Kenya; a mass Baptism of school students in Nairobi was celebrated in July 2018; and in January 2019, 13 children were baptized at the St. Barnabas Orphanage and School in Njabini, Kenya.

Since you are here…

…we do have a small request. More and more people visit Orthodoxy and the World website. However, resources for editorial are scarce. In comparison to some mass media, we do not make paid subscription. It is our deepest belief that preaching Christ for money is wrong.

Having said that, Pravmir provides daily articles from an autonomous news service, weekly wall newspaper for churches, lectorium, photos, videos, hosting and servers. Editors and translators work together towards one goal: to make our four websites possible - Pravmir.ru, Neinvalid.ru, Matrony.ru and Pravmir.com. Therefore our request for help is understandable.

For example, 5 euros a month is it a lot or little? A cup of coffee? It is not that much for a family budget, but it is a significant amount for Pravmir.

If everyone reading Pravmir could donate 5 euros a month, they would contribute greatly to our ability to spread the word of Christ, Orthodoxy, life's purpose, family and society.
