Moscow, March 28, Interfax – Outside illumination of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and St. Basil Cathedral will be switched off on March 29 from 08:30 p.m. to 09:30 p.m. in frames of international ecological action Earth Hour.
300 buildings will turn off the lights, including the Kremlin, the GUM Shopping Mall, the House of Russian Government, the State Duma, the building of Moscow University on Vorobyovy Gory, press service of the country’s head reports.
Earth Hour is an annual international ecological action of the World Wildlife Fund aimed at attracting people’s attention to the problem of climate changing. In frames of the action people all around the world voluntarily switch off the lights, outdoor lighting on the buildings that are symbols of the countries is also turned off.
150 countries, about 7,000 cities and over 2 billion people, including 16 million Russians participated in the action last year.
