The Holy Trinity – St. Sergius Lavra and the diocese of Sergiev Posad have jointly collected and donated five tons of humanitarian aid to refugees from the Donbass region.

They managed to collect this amount of aid in just two weeks, starting on March 5, 2022, when, with the blessing of Bishop Thomas of Sergiev-Posad and Dmitrovsky, the collection of humanitarian aid began, reports the website of the Lavra.

The collected food, personal hygiene products, household chemicals, baby food, stationery and other items were sent to a single humanitarian aid collection center for refugees at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Kadashi, and from there it will be sent to Rostov-on-Don and handed over to the refugees.

Anna Galiyeva, Assistant Chairman of the Social Service of the Lavra, who oversees the collection of humanitarian aid, noted that food and other items are brought not only by the parishioners of the lavra and churches of the diocese, but also by residents of Sergiev Posad.

People from other cities and even republics turn to the Social Service of the Lavra with a desire to help. Anna Galieva connects such an active participation of people with the fact that they trust both the Lavra itself and the Church as a whole.

“There are people who cannot help financially, but volunteer to help with sorting and packing products. This is very valuable help,” said the curator of the collection of humanitarian aid.

Volunteers of the Social Center of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra also work at the warehouse, sort the products, put them into boxes, pack and load humanitarian aid.

“I would like to heartily thank everyone who is involved in this noble cause. Both those who bring food and things, those who organize the collection of help locally in the churches of our diocese, and those who work for free in the warehouse. I believe that the Lord will reward you all a hundredfold for your good deeds and sympathy for your neighbors in this difficult time,” said Bishop Thomas.

The collection of humanitarian aid continues.

Since you are here…

…we do have a small request. More and more people visit Orthodoxy and the World website. However, resources for editorial are scarce. In comparison to some mass media, we do not make paid subscription. It is our deepest belief that preaching Christ for money is wrong.

Having said that, Pravmir provides daily articles from an autonomous news service, weekly wall newspaper for churches, lectorium, photos, videos, hosting and servers. Editors and translators work together towards one goal: to make our four websites possible - Pravmir.ru, Neinvalid.ru, Matrony.ru and Pravmir.com. Therefore our request for help is understandable.

For example, 5 euros a month is it a lot or little? A cup of coffee? It is not that much for a family budget, but it is a significant amount for Pravmir.

If everyone reading Pravmir could donate 5 euros a month, they would contribute greatly to our ability to spread the word of Christ, Orthodoxy, life's purpose, family and society.
