On 24 April 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with Mr. Gebran Bassil, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of the Republic of Lebanon.

Accompanying Minister Bassil to the meeting, which took place at the Laura of the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius, were Archbishop Nifon of Philippopolis, representative of the Patriarch of Antioch to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; H. E. Chawki Abou Nassar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lebanon to the Russian Federation, and other Lebanese officials.

The situation of Christians in Lebanon and other countries of the Middle East was discussed.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said that the Russian Orthodox Church was praying for Christians in the Middle East and comes forward at various international forums for maintaining Christian presence in the region.
