His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon and the staff of the Chancery of the Orthodox Church in America will host a celebration marking the 700th Anniversary of the birth of Saint Sergius of Radonezh on Saturday, September 27, 2014.
St. Sergius celebrations by OCA Chancery to be held September 27

Saint Sergius is the patron of the Chancery Chapel.

The day will open with the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in the walled garden [weather permitting] at 10:00 a.m.  A combined choir comprised of students from Saint Vladimir’s and Saint Tikhon’s Seminaries will sing the responses.  A reception will follow.

In conjunction with the celebration, four noted Church musicians will be awarded the Order of Saint Romanos.  Established by the Holy Synod of Bishops at their spring 2014 session, the award is presented to influential arrangers, composers, teachers and conductors in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to the field of liturgical music in the Orthodox Church in America.  Recipients of the inaugural awards include Archpriest Sergei Glagolev, Archpriest Igor Soroka, Prof. Dr. David Drillock, and Walter Shymansky.

Area clergy and faithful are warmly invited to attend the celebration.  Please RSVP by contacting Archpriest Eric G. Tosi, OCA Secretary, at egtosi@oca.org, or Barry Migyanko at bmigyanko@oca.org, by Friday, September 12.

Since you are here…

…we do have a small request. More and more people visit Orthodoxy and the World website. However, resources for editorial are scarce. In comparison to some mass media, we do not make paid subscription. It is our deepest belief that preaching Christ for money is wrong.

Having said that, Pravmir provides daily articles from an autonomous news service, weekly wall newspaper for churches, lectorium, photos, videos, hosting and servers. Editors and translators work together towards one goal: to make our four websites possible - Pravmir.ru, Neinvalid.ru, Matrony.ru and Pravmir.com. Therefore our request for help is understandable.

For example, 5 euros a month is it a lot or little? A cup of coffee? It is not that much for a family budget, but it is a significant amount for Pravmir.

If everyone reading Pravmir could donate 5 euros a month, they would contribute greatly to our ability to spread the word of Christ, Orthodoxy, life's purpose, family and society.
