Syria’s grand mufti invites Patriarch Kirill to hold interreligious conference

Damascus, February 10, Interfax - Syria's Grand Mufti Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun has made an offer to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to hold an interreligious conference involving the Russian Muslim leaders, Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, told Interfax on Friday.

“Grand Mufti Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun of Syria has asked to give His Holiness Patriarch Kirill his offer to organize an interreligious conference in Russia involving His Holiness the Patriarch and the heads of all Muslim boards of Russia to discuss relevant issues in the world and in Russia,” Father Arseny told reporters after meeting with Mufti Hassoun.

Hegumen Arseny also said he had thanked the mufti for his offer, “calling it important and interesting,” and said he would convey his offer to Patriarch Kirill.
