“Moscow is deeply shocked by the crime committed in Libya, which is another indication of the barbaric essence of the ISIL. We express our solidarity with the friendly people of Egypt and the Egyptian administration in the fight against international terrorism. We extend our condolences to the relatives of and loved ones of the victims of this horrible tragedy,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report posted on its website on Monday.
“What happened shows that crimes committed by terrorists mainly hurt innocent civilians, in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq or any other country of the region. Russia will continue to energetically support the fight against this global evil on the basis of universally accepted principles of international law,” the ministry said.
A video of the killing of 21 Coptic Christians from Egypt by Libyan jihadists associated with the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was published in the mass media on February 15.
