The Church of St. Basil the Great in the village of Kondratyevka in Gorlovka, Donetsk region, was completely destroyed by fire. There are no victims, but the holy things were destroyed by the fire, reports Gorlovka-eparhia.com.ua.

The fire started on January 5, 2021 at about 22:00. Despite the efforts of the firefighters, in just one hour the fire completely destroyed the church: only the walls remained from the building.

At the time of the fire, only the watchman was on the territory of the church. He managed to leave the scene and was not injured.

Because of the strong fire, the firefighters did not let anyone inside, even the rector of the church, Archpriest Vasily Drebot, who wanted to save the holy things from the altar – at that moment the roof caught fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The Church of St. Basil the Great in the village of Kondratyevka in Gorlovka opened in 1998 on the premises of a former store. In 2017, thanks to the help of local entrepreneurs, it was decorated with bells for the first time. The church building also housed the parish library.

Since you are here…

…we do have a small request. More and more people visit Orthodoxy and the World website. However, resources for editorial are scarce. In comparison to some mass media, we do not make paid subscription. It is our deepest belief that preaching Christ for money is wrong.

Having said that, Pravmir provides daily articles from an autonomous news service, weekly wall newspaper for churches, lectorium, photos, videos, hosting and servers. Editors and translators work together towards one goal: to make our four websites possible - Pravmir.ru, Neinvalid.ru, Matrony.ru and Pravmir.com. Therefore our request for help is understandable.

For example, 5 euros a month is it a lot or little? A cup of coffee? It is not that much for a family budget, but it is a significant amount for Pravmir.

If everyone reading Pravmir could donate 5 euros a month, they would contribute greatly to our ability to spread the word of Christ, Orthodoxy, life's purpose, family and society.
